Candidate Survey Results



The Rescue Michigan Coalition surveyed candidates for State House in 2024 on the most fundamental liberty issues of our time. (The State Senate is not up for election until 2026.) Here are their responses.

Survey Questions (The correct answer to each question, from our perspective, is "Yes")

Constitutional Rights

1. Will you vote to restore Michigan's Right to Work law, which protects workers from being forced to pay dues to a labor union as a condition of employment?

2. Will you oppose any legislation to require personal financial disclosures as a condition of holding public office?

3. Will you vote to create an individual cause of action (lawsuit) against a social network that holds itself out as a free speech platform but censors its users based on content or viewpoint? (See HB 4801 of 2019)

4. Will you support a “Constitutional Carry” bill that would affirm the right of any law-abiding citizen to carry a firearm concealed without a permit?

5. Will you vote to repeal Michigan's recently-enacted “Red Flag” law, which allows the government to deprive law-abiding citizens of their gun rights without due process of law?

6. Will you oppose any legislation that would create enhanced punishment based on perceived motivations of “hate” or special class status of victims?

Health Freedom / Abuse of Emergency Powers

7. Will you vote to end ALL emergency powers that delegate legislative power to the executive branch for more than 28 days, including the Emergency Management Act of 1976, which grants the governor emergency powers, and Sections 2253 and 2453 of the Public Health Code, which grants the Department of Health emergency powers?

8. Will you vote to prohibit any entity, public or private, from requiring proof of vaccination or any other drug usage as a condition of employment?

9. Will you vote to prohibit any government agency, including public schools and public transportation, from requiring masks to be worn?

10. Will you vote to prohibit local governments from imposing lockdowns, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, or other infringements on civil liberties?

11. Will you vote to prohibit the state from regulating or otherwise restricting direct farm-to-consumer food sales, including raw milk?

Election Integrity

12. Will you oppose the National Popular Vote scheme, whereby Michigan may award its electoral votes to the candidate who did not win a majority of votes in Michigan?

13. Will you oppose any legislation to issue driver licenses and/or ID cards to illegal aliens?

14. Will you vote to repeal all election laws passed during the 2023-2024 election cycle, which were intended to remove safeguards against election fraud, increase the cost to candidates for electioneering, and otherwise benefit Democrats?

Parents and Children's Rights

15. Will you vote to prohibit and impose felony criminal penalties for doctors that perform irreversible medical sex-reassignment procedures on minors, including surgeries and prescribing puberty blockers?

16. Will you oppose any legislation to create a registry of parents who educate their children at home or in any other private setting?

17. Will you vote to protect women's sports under Title IX by prohibiting biological men (those with Y chromosomes) competing in women's sports in public schools and universities?

Disqualified candidates

Some candidates were not sent surveys and will not be regarded by the Rescue Michigan Coalition is qualified candidates for office.

James Chapman, right, is running for State House in the 32nd district. Chapman is a convicted felon for attempted murder with a long history of violent crime, including attempted murder, stalking, driving car into a lake while fleeing police, and much more.

The photo was taken at the "Operation Gridlock" rally in Lansing to protest Gretchen Whitmer's draconian lockdown measures in May of 2020. With a naked Barbie doll hanging by a noose (which he told reporters represented what he wanted to do to Whitmer), Chapman hijacked the media coverage of a principled protest and brought disgrace to all of those patrriots on that day. More recently, Chapman again disgraced conservatives when he instigated violence at Republican event, bringing national negative coverage.

The Rescue Michigan Coalition will not allow James Chapman to market himself by completing our candidate survey. In our view, all responsible patriots have a moral obligation to shun him.

However, two other candidates for State House – Jason Rogers, running in the 33rd district and Miriam Corvino, running in the 23rd, both embrace him. Both have spent the past year agitating to overthrow the Washtenaw County Republican Party, in these safely Democrat districts it's reasonable to assume their only intention in seeking the office is to become statutory members of the party's executive committee by becoming the Republican nominee in those districts.

At the Michigan Republican State Convention held last March, both Jason Rogers and Miriam Corvino voted to make James Chapman a voting member of the district delegation, despite having been disqualified at the Wayne County convention (neither Rogers nor Corvino live in Wayne County). The district caucus, which was dominated by disruptors, voted to elevate James Chapman to district delegate, and eight delegates even voted for James Chapman to become a national delegate.

This behavior is unconscionable and the Coalition to Rescue Michigan will not give these candidates a platform here.
